Microchipping

A microchip can provide a lifetime of permanent identification if your dog or cat gets lost.

Microchips are a great way to increase the chances of you finding your lost pet. It is very common for pets to be adventurous and wander around their environment. This doesn’t mean that you are an irresponsible pet parent – all it takes is a fleeting moment for your pet to get away and become lost. These devices are a must-have for all pets. They are like your insurance or back-up plan in the event of any emergency.

How do microchips work? Are they like GPS?

Microchips do not work like GPS. They cannot track the location of your pet. Microchips are small computer chips inserted below the skin on your pet’s neck. The chip is registered to a database where your information is kept. To access this information a microchip reader will scan the area and transmit your pet’s ID number from the database.

How are microchips different from ID tags?

Microchips and ID tags increase the chance of a reunion with your lost pet. Microchips do not expire and therefore do not need to be changed. They can be read by a scanner at a shelter or veterinary hospital. Even if you change addresses, you can update your information. An ID tag on the other hand can easily be lost or damaged making it more difficult to find your pet.

Is microchipping painful for my pet?

Your pet experiences little to no pain when the chip is implanted. Your furry friend will not need any anesthesia as it is over within minutes.
